From Self-Help Seminars to GROWING IN FAITH: A Personal Journey WITH STEVE TRISTAN

I SEEKED HELP AT TONY ROBBINS EVENTS

This is what I found out while going to Self-Help Seminars to Growing in Faith. In the pursuit of personal growth and success, many of us find ourselves drawn to charismatic motivational speakers and their promises of transformation. For several years, I was deeply involved in Tony Robbins‘ events, including Unleash the Power Within, Mastery University, and Business Mastery. The energy was palpable, the crowds were enthusiastic, and the promise of unlocking one’s full potential was alluring.

The Allure of Self-Help Seminars

My journey with Tony Robbins began at a Real Estate Expo in Los Angeles. The atmosphere was electric, reminiscent of a Catholic retreat I had recently attended. We jumped, we cheered, we felt invincible. Robbins’ charisma and seemingly genuine desire to help others was captivating.

Eager to continue this momentum, I invested thousands of dollars in his programs, complete with a personal coach for six months. The RPM (Results, Purpose, Massive Action Plan) system became my new mantra, and I diligently wrote down my goals and aspirations.

The Cracks Begin to Show

As time passed, however, I began to question the true value of these expensive programs. While I gained some insights, particularly about modern feminist perspectives from my coach, I felt a growing disconnect between the teachings and my core values.

The turning point came when discussing my goals with my coach. When I mentioned “Peace” as one of my objectives, I was told that Tony Robbins believes peace is unattainable. As a Catholic, this statement struck me as fundamentally flawed. How could a system claiming to improve lives dismiss the possibility of inner peace?

Rediscovering Faith and True Peace

Disillusioned with the self-help world, I turned back to my faith. I began visiting my church daily and spent more time in Adoration at the Tabernacle. In those quiet moments of prayer and reflection, I found what no seminar or coaching session could provide – true peace.

The Eucharist became my source of strength and balance. I was also focused on what was more important in my life. I realized that the peace I sought wasn’t something to be achieved through motivational techniques or business strategies but through a deep, physical personal connection with Jesus Christ.

Lessons Learned

This experience taught me several valuable lessons:

  1. True fulfillment comes from God. No external program or motivational speaker can provide peace. That only comes from God through the Holy Spirit or physically through Jesus in the most Holy Eucharist.
  2. The importance of aligning actions with core values. While self-improvement is admirable, it’s crucial to ensure that the methods align with the teachings of Christ.
  3. The power of faith in personal growth. My Catholic faith provided a framework for growth and peace that no secular program could match.
  4. Critical thinking in self-help. It’s essential to approach self-help materials with a discerning mind, questioning their compatibility with one’s faith and the teachings of the church.

Conclusion: Finding Truth

My experience with Self-Help Seminars to Growing in Faith especially the Tony Robbins programs helped me to not always trust secular teachings and it taught me to only trust in God. I also found the true meaning of truth. My favorite scripture explains it in the book of John 18:33-38:

33 Then Pilate entered the headquarters again, summoned Jesus, and asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” 34 Jesus answered, “Do you ask this on your own, or did others tell you about me?” 35 Pilate replied, “I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me. What have you done?” 36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.” 37 Pilate asked him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.” 38 Pilate asked him, “What is truth?”
